The Monthi Fest Celebration

September 9th, 2019 by

The monthi fest celebration at St Joseph’s Seminary, Jeppu was held on 7 September2017. We celebrated the birth of our heavenly mother with overwhelming joy. the day was also marked the inauguration of the silver jubile year of    the Konkani bhinghari (Konkani academy).  The day began with the holy Eucharistic celebration in Konkani    language. Fr James D’Souza was the main celebrant of the day. Very Rev. Fr Ronald   Serrao, the rector, Fr    Francis    D’Souza, the director of Konkan bhinghari, Fr Boniface Pinto, Fr Milton Jacob were present    for    the Eucharistic    celebration. Soon after the liturgical ceremony there was an inauguration    Ceremony of the silver jubilee    year of Konkani    bhinghari and    the    releasing    of “Nadar” (Konkani bhinghari annual    magazine) thereafter. History    takes    us    back    to    1918-19    when    the    Seminary first opened up itself for the academies in vernacular    languages, there began Konkani Academy too (Unitas    ’23).    But the amalgamation of the    academies    in    the    middle of 1930s interrupted the academy’s life. Later with the drastic efforts of    Rev.    Fr John Femandes, then    professor and a few brothers, the    revival of Konkani    Academy    took    place    in    the    year    1995-1996. With    new vigour and    better motives, it    was    named “Konknni    Bhingari” This year we celebrate the silver year    of ‘Konknni    Bhingari’ and thank God for the continuous journey in educating about the culture and th language, and for the real good that has taken place.
