Lectio Brevis: The inauguration of the academic year 2021 – 2022

St Joseph’s Interdiocesan Seminary, Mangalore rejoices over having the inauguration session (Lectio Brevis) of the academic year 2021-22 on 19th July 2021. The event began with the Mass of the Holy Spirit at 9.00 am, presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, the Bishop of Mangalore and the Chairman of the Board of Administration and celebrated by Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the Bishop emeritus, Very Rev. Fr Ronald Serrao, the Rector of the Seminary, the staff and the students. Considering the year of “Human Formation”, the Bishop invited all to follow the person of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Master. In his homily, the Bishop stressed to be more humane in our daily dealings with our neighbors. He also asked the seminarians to discover oneself to be more generous towards the others. He highlighted the aspect of forgiving one another as the best quality of a human being. Thereafter, the inaugural ceremony was held in the Centenary Memorial Hall at 10.30 am. The ceremony began with a prayer followed by the lighting of the lamp by the Bishop, Fr Rector, Fr Antony George Pinto (HOD of Theology), Fr Joseph Martis (HOD of Philosophy) and the student representatives of each department. Fr Rector welcomed the gathering by his impressive words. He welcomed the new staff members and the students. He also thanked the priests who were transferred from the seminary for their valuable services in the past years. Thereafter, the Bishop addressed the gathering. He said that in the Church there is no “They” but it is always “We” which means the Church is a family of love. As the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit are one, so also the members of the Church he said need to be one in the mission of Christ. He invited all seminarians to pay attention to all the four-fold dimension of priestly formation, especially the Human Formation which is the thrust of the current year. The vote of thanks was proposed by Br Laurence D’Souza (MC) and the ceremony was concluded with the seminary anthem.
